Bantama rape saga: Police grabs 3 suspects
The Ghana Police Service has release further details concerning suspects arrested in connected with a gang rape video that recently went viral on Ghanaian social media.
The viral video where several teenagers are seen taking turns to sexually assault a young lady has caused severe outrage with Ghanaians. Just off the bat, a popular Ghanaian legal practitioner, Ace Ankomah, has already stated that authorities will be “spoilt for choice” when it comes to choosing an offense to charge the suspects with.
With the charged emotion tied to this particular incident, it appears that authorities have chosen to tread cautiously and release only the barest information regarding the culprits.
Recent reports have it that police have already apprehended three out of the seven suspects involved, while the remaining four are still at large. According to police, two out of three arrested suspects are SHS 1 students, while one is a JHS 3 student.
Speaking to the media, the Ashanti Regional Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Juliana Obeng, stated that the suspects were arrested over the weekends in Kumasi.
“The command has arrested 3 suspects. The arrest of these suspects was made on Saturday, 16th December 2017 at their various homes at Bantama. The three suspects and their 4 accomplices who are currently at large are all students….Two of the 3 arrested are in SHS 1 and the other in JHS 3,” she said.
According police, the incident occurred on Saturday, which means authorities were informed of the incident the same day it occurred and days before the video was released and went viral on social media.
